Gloucestershire Green Circle: Green Energy and Energy Efficiency

Gloucester

Thursday 21st November 2019

09.00 -11.30 am

Venue: Sanctus House, 1 Olympus Park Business Centre, Quedgeley, Gloucester. GL2 4DH

The Gloucestershire Energy Strategy sets a target for making the county neutral in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. This may seem a tall order for the SMEs which make up 96% of Gloucestershire's economy, especially as energy efficiency and renewable energy are often perceived to have costs making it uneconomic for companies to invest in them. The November meeting of Gloucestershire Green Circle will take an in-depth look at buying green energy and dispel the myths around energy efficiency.

Switching to a supplier of green energy is a straight-forward way of cutting carbon dioxide emissions in one fell swoop and can save money. A recent survey by Which? magazine listed at least 14 green energy suppliers. So how do you go about choosing one and how can you be sure that they really are living up to their claims?

Kath Chapman, managing director of Ameresco, one of the largest independent providers of energy services in the United Kingdom and in North America, is perfectly placed to give us an in depth understanding of the energy market. Her talk will examine:

  • how the UK energy market works
  • how to buy green energy
  • how to avoid the pitfalls and spot greenwash
  • why it’s important to manage energy rather than just buy green

Following this, Severn Wye Energy Agency, the county's independent energy advice charity, will pick up on the managing energy theme and lead a workshop helping participants identify ways to incorporate energy efficiency to their company's buildings and operations. Participants will get an understanding of what will make a big difference to reducing energy use, and therefore their energy bills, and to helping to combat climate change.
