Lean learning – exploring the role, potential and benefits of bite-size

Gloucester

Thursday 23rd April 2020

09.30 am - 12.30 noon

Venue: OX-TC-216 (Teaching Centre), Oxstalls Campus, University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Lane, Gloucester GL2 9HW

This event is for L&D and HR professionals looking for an alternative to traditional training and who want to give their employees a refreshing learning experience.

When we think about Learning & Development in today’s world of work, we must recognise that the ‘Bitesize’ revolution is upon us. Demands on time, budget and people are greater than ever, and organisations can no longer afford the luxury of spending long days in the training room. With research indicating that only 35% of the content from a traditional training day is retained, L&D professionals have to ask themselves ‘why do we still do it?’.

This GL&D session will explore how we’ve responded to the ‘Bitesize challenge’ and we will share our experiences of achieving higher retention and results from our learning solutions with less time in the training room.

This event is organised by CIPD’s Gloucestershire Learning & Development Special Interest Group (GL&D), and is open to all with an interest in L&D.

About our speakers:

Emma Carroll and Phil Carroll, Choose to Grow L&D Ltd, and Miranda Jenkins, Skills to Go Ltd

Emma Carroll: Emma is the heartbeat and driving force of Choose to Grow L&D Ltd. Passionate about creating an engaged and resilient workforce, Emma has been designing and implementing Learning and Development solutions for a number of high-profile clients since the company’s launch in 2015. Emma specialises in the ability to transform organisational behaviour to anticipate, prepare for, respond and adapt to incremental change and sudden disruptions in order to survive and prosper. Her interventions are developed with a 'systematic mindset' – they create alignment with the organisation’s goals and activities in a planned way, with a view to bringing about a particular result that will improve the overall performance of the organisation. Her innovative approach to delivering Bitesize learning is now the USP of the company. Her motivation comes from her insights, experience and research into corporate behaviours that link with neuroscience.

Phil Carroll: Phil is a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Operations at Choose to Grow L&D Ltd. He is the founder of our GROW 360 feedback tool that we use alongside our Bitesize Learning programmes. Through his innovation we have been able to deliver high impact feedback that transforms employee behaviours which ultimately deliver on performance and that achieve organisational goals in half the time of a traditional learning programme.

Miranda Jenkins: Miranda is a leadership, learning and development professional and has been successfully supporting the development of talent in wide-ranging organisations such as pharmaceutical, manufacturing, engineering and housing. Miranda brings over 20 years’ experience of working with L&D managers to improve performance through aligning business goals and people development priorities, thus making the case for investment in skills more ‘palatable’ for budget holders and key decision-makers. She is passionate about creating inclusive learning experiences that enable anyone to progress and to achieve their true potential, and is a voluntary Advisory Board member for a Gloucestershire-based training provider for young people who are unable to engage in ‘regular’ education.
