Find out what rococo means, why sculpture and shells were important to the rococo era and have a go at making your own shell sculpture!

In this free workshop, local sculptor Madeleine Staples will provide a range of ‘found objects’, as well as a large collection of shells, so that each participant can make their own sculpture! The workshop will consider why sculpture was important to the original design of the Garden and why shells are symbolic to the rococo era in a fun and interactive manner.

The workshops are free, made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, and will help all young visitors to re-discover the intriguing history behind the Garden and its unique design. They are suitable for children above the age of five.

The workshops form a part of Painswick Rococo Garden’s heritage project, “Celebrating Painswick Rococo Garden”, this summer. Made possible by the support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project focuses on the history of the Gardens - in particular, rococo art and sculpture.

One ticket includes free admission to the Garden for the child participating in the workshop (5+) and one accompanying adult only.
