Talks and Workshops

Stroud Area

"Thank you most sincerely for the very interesting talk that you gave in February. We all thought that it was very enlightening and gave a great insight into the farmers markets' and why we should support them. I have to say that we all felt that you delivered your talk in a very receptive and light hearted way, causing many a giggle." Anne Robbins, Cheltenham Branch Secretary, NHS Retirement Fellowship.

We are happy to come along and give a talk to your local interest group. In the past we have spoken to many local W.I.groups, The NHS Retirement Fellowship, and various Church and interest groups in the area.

Included in our fee of £35 within our market areas of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire are prizes for your raffle of a re-usable cotton farmers' markets shopping bag and an organic cotton, fairly-traded farmers' market tea towel.

Our talks have been very well received in the past, and we are now talking bookings now for 2010/11. Call us at the office on 01453 758060 to book us in. (Additional fuel costs may apply for further afield)

Clare Gerbrands is also avaiable for after-dinner speaking.

Workshops for market managers and stallholders

We have a good track record of running workshops and training sessions for farmers markets managers and stallholders. Clare Gerbrands is a qualified "Welcome Farmer" trainer and experienced speaker.

Clare Gerbrands devised and wrote the first "The Farmers' Market Manager's Handbook", written in 2001. Funded by The Countryside Agency, Gloucestershire County Council, and The South West Regional Development Agency, the handbook was the first of its kind published in the UK and copies were ordered by local authorities and community groups in England, Wales, and even Finland. The handbook proved the basis of many further publications and toolkits, published around the UK.

Clare was a founder member and director of the National Association of Farmers Markets (NAFM) and was involved in helping to formulate the criteria for stallholders selling at farmers markets in the UK.

Events we have attended include talks for Kent Farmers Markets Association on "Marketing and Working with the Local Media" and "Running Special Events", "Working Together to Sell More" at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, and a year long series of seminars for Gloucestershire farmers covering all aspects of direct selling for Gloucestershire Food Links. We have run a series of Welcome Farmer courses with Hartpury College, helping farmers and producers make the most of direct sales.

We have run various workshops and Clare has spokent 7 times at the annual farmers markets conferences run by FARMA and NAFM over the years, covering all aspects of direct marketing and community working. Our workshops are always met with enthusiasm and guaranteed to start a discussion amongst delegates.
