A big green chair raises money for charity

Cheltenham

A local printer has produced a heart-warming children’s book telling the story of a father and son relationship.  Adam Le Grand, who works at a Gloucestershire based Print Management Company was the driving force behind the production of ‘The Big Green Chair’, sales of which will raise money for local medical imaging charity Cobalt.

Adam’s recent loss of his own father and the experience of becoming a father himself for the first time were the inspiration for the project.

The book tells the story of Charlie, a five year old boy anxious about moving house.  Charlie’s father tries to ease the little boy’s fears with a much-loved piece of furniture, a big green chair.  The chair becomes the centrepiece of adventures in far off magical lands with Charlie’s father transforming it into a rocket, a pirate ship and all manner of exciting things.

Adam has worked in the print industry for over 8 years and wanted to create a book that families would love to read.  100 books have been initially produced with Adam donating a number to local schools.  The rest will be sold with all profits being donated to Cobalt, a charity Adams’ father visited for diagnostic scans throughout his illness.  Over £2,000 has been raised for the charity already.

Adam Le Grand said ”Who knew an old green chair could be the inspiration for so much adventure?  I do hope my dream will spark some inspiration for families to renew their love of a good book and to put down the electronic gadgets and switch off television sets and spend some quality time together.  I’m delighted that a local charity will benefit from the proceeds of the sales, especially one so close to my heart”.

Julia Jenkins, Head of Fundraising, Cobalt said “This is such an innovative way to fundraise for us.  Adam raised all the money to produce and print the book through crowdfunding.  The book will make a wonderful gift for Christmas and is a fantastic legacy for the family”.

The books have been kindly printed by CBF where Adam works. They can be purchased for a suggested donation of £8 from Cobalt, Linton House, Thirlestaine Road, Cheltenham, GL53 7AS.  For more information contact fundraising@cobalthealth.co.uk or call 01242 535922.

Money raised from sales of the book will go to help the charity support people with cancer, dementia and fund an appeal to purchase new mammography equipment for the Gloucestershire breast centre.
