Charity sees demand surge with vaccine rollout
COMMUNITY CONNEXIONS who provide transport for vulnerable people across the county of Gloucestershire have recently seen a new demand to their charity; the elderly or rurally isolated
requesting transport to and from vaccination appointments.
Chief Executive of Community Connexions, Paul Riddick, said: “Originally the Covid Pandemic saw our volunteer base fall away. In light of this we launched our ‘you are more than a volunteer to us’ campaign in a bid to recruit more volunteers to help our cause.
“Recently we have seen a number of volunteers come forward as drivers; those who seem to really want to help the ‘national effort’ and try to help get the country out of lockdown. However, the recent rollout of the vaccination programme means we need more volunteers than ever before to meet the extraordinary demand.
“It is this direct help, and ‘small something’ that the public can do to help, which is not only vital to our customers but really seems to resonate with the volunteers themselves.”
Being a driver is so much more than driving, it’s an opportunity to build friendships and combat loneliness in older and disabled people. Community Connexions is continually looking for individuals throughout the County who have a willingness to provide a friendly experience to their users.
Community Connexions will provide full training to ensure volunteers have all the tools needed to provide the safe and valuable experience that really values the community. Plus, no previous volunteering experience is required – just their own transport (all expenses paid).
For more information and to volunteer please call Community Connexions on 0345 6805029, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.communityconnexions.org.uk.
Provide transport for people of all ages across Gloucestershire and beyond who would otherwise struggle to get where they need to go. This may be due to physical, mental, social or rural barriers.
