Cheltenham BID’s action plan to help businesses as confusion around coronavirus continues

Cheltenham

Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) has launched a two-pronged campaign to ensure that vital information is available to its businesses in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The BID, which works for more than 550 businesses in the town, knows that many are confused about what support they can get and are struggling to trade.

Two vital “how to” guides have now been distributed widely to the businesses and are available on the BID’s website. They are also being promoted on social media.

The first aims to ensure that all businesses are aware of the financial support available to them from central Government and Cheltenham Borough Council.

It includes information on business rates relief, grants, loans and Statutory Sick Pay relief. The information is available to all here.

The second guide advises businesses on how to ensure they are following Government advice as they trade, how to use websites and social media to promote their business direct to consumers and gives a range of tips on how to work differently in the current crisis. It is available here.

BID Director Kevan Blackadder said: “We are in completely unchartered territory for the entire business world and there remains significant confusion about the help they may or may not be entitled to. We hope we have been able to bring some clarity and will be updating the information as more details emerge.

“Our advice on how to move more of your business online includes some tips that we know many businesses just haven’t felt applied to them in the past.

“We’re hoping they’ll make a significant difference to the way independent retailers and food and drink businesses in particular can continue to operate. And when the epidemic is long over, they should be able to continue to benefit from the measures they have introduced.”
