Quacking day out returns to raise vital funds for local hospice

Cheltenham

Sunday 12th January 2020

Following on from last year’s ‘quacking’ success families in Gloucestershire are once again in for a real ‘tweet’ when National Rubber Duck Day races return to Pittville Park in Cheltenham on Sunday 12th January 2020.

The event, organised entirely by big hearted volunteers and sponsored by Puddle Ducks Gloucestershire, saw hundreds of families descend on Pittville Park to race rubber ducks last year, raising £2,600 for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

The fun starts from 10.30am on Sunday 12th January 2020 at Pittville Park boating lake and volunteers hope they can ‘quack’ last year’s fundraising total.

Families can enjoy all the fun of the ‘rubber duck’ races setting off at 11am, 11.20am, 11.40am, 12noon and 12.20pm, where they can sponsor a duck at a cost of £3 a duck.

There is also ‘Hook a Duck’ fun, a ‘Name the Duck’ competition and an absolutely ‘quacking’ grand charity raffle with prizes from Cheltenham Racecourse, Batsford Arboretum, Painswick Rococo Gardens and Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway.

There will be lots of tasty food and drink to enjoy from The Boathouse Café and The Woozy Pig, all mixed with a dash of family fun entertainment.

Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice volunteer, Paulette Vallois, helps organise the event. She said, “Last year’s event went swimmingly and was a real fun filled family day out raising lots of money for the wonderful Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. The ducks have spent the last year in training and they are ready to take to the water once more for some quacking great fun!”

“If you’re looking for a fun day out in the New Year then you need look no feather! Wrap up warm, pull on your wellies and come on down to join us.”

Charlie Homer Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice added, "Cheltenham is well known for the Cheltenham Races, but it’s well known with local families for its Rubber Duck Racing too! We hope there’ll be a 'quacking' turnout just like last year supporting all those families who need our expert and compassionate palliative care and bereavement support."

“Huge thanks to our team of amazing volunteers who have been working so hard to bring the Rubber Duck Races back to Cheltenham again in 2020.”
