We help supporters achieve things they didn’t think were possible

Gloucestershire’s Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice just outside Cheltenham is searching for two new members for its fundraising team to help raise vital funds for families needing the charity's compassionate care.

We help supporters achieve things they didn’t think were possible

The hospice’s fundraising team plays an important role building relationships and supporting people in the local communities in every corner of the county to raise money and awareness.

The funds raised help Sue Ryder to continue to provide its care and services and fill families’ last days with love.

Community Fundraising Managers, Alysia Cameron-Price and Matt Reay want to shine a spotlight on what it is really like to work in the industry, to inspire others to consider a career in fundraising with Sue Ryder.

“I love meeting all of our supporters and the families that we support,” shares Alysia. “Hearing the stories about how we have helped them and the difference we made is the most fulfilling and humbling thing about my role.”

Matt agrees, “Working in fundraising it's all about the people and it’s a real privilege to work with such passionate care teams and with such wonderful supporters and volunteers.”

Alysia says no two days are ever the same either.

“When people ask me what a typical day is like working in fundraising, I actually can't answer. There's no such thing as a typical day in this role and that is what I love about it. It is such a varied job, never boring and so rewarding.”

Matt says it sounds like a cliché but it is true no day is the same, “I am responsible for managing our events and a lot of planning goes into them. We're constantly talking to supporters, suppliers, local businesses and of course our incredible team of volunteers to bring everything together.”

The team is keen to challenge any misconceptions people might have about hospices too.

Before working for Sue Ryder Matt says he had known families who had experienced the palliative care given by the charity. “They all said the same thing about the tranquillity and peacefulness of the hospice, but it wasn't until I visited that I really appreciated the atmosphere and the warmth you feel from everyone.

“I think many have misconceptions about hospices but hopefully that's changing and bringing events like our upcoming Starlight Hike up through the grounds is allowing more people to see what a wonderful place Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice is.”

Alysia agrees, “Having worked for a hospice charity before I knew just how joyful places they can actually be to work for. However, there's no place like Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. The atmosphere and feeling here is like nowhere else. It's special.”

The new fundraisers will be an important part of the busy, welcoming and supportive team who are there for the charity’s many wonderful supporters.

Matt shared, “Communication and teamwork are absolutely key to working in fundraising and a willingness to get stuck in! Working in events you have to love planning.”

“There are so many transferable skills coming across from different sectors into working in the charity sector. I was fortunate to know close family and friends who have worked in the charity sector and encouraged me to take a leap into the unknown. I've been with the charity over six years now and have really enjoyed what it has to offer and the close knit family you become part of.

“To be able to make a difference and support our local community through event fundraising is such a rewarding career. I'm so glad I took that leap of faith and would certainly encourage others to consider doing the same.”

Alysia says there’s no job like it. “It's a huge privilege to work with supporters who have lost a loved one who want to do something in tribute to someone special in their own unique way. It could be running a marathon or making a donation every year. We can help our supporters achieve things they didn’t think were possible and that is really special.”
