County financial services staff step up to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder

14 staff from the Ecclesiastical Planning Services team based in Gloucester are making every step count this March to raise vital funds for their local Sue Ryder Hospice.

The fundraising feat will see staff clock up more than three million steps between them through team walks, solo strides and outings with friends and family to raise money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham.

Working with funeral providers across the country, Ecclesiastical Planning Services Limited supports people to put pre-paid funeral plans in place and is part of the Benefact Group which gives available profits to good causes.

Talking about why they chose to step out for Sue Ryder this month, Emma Simpson, Marketing Manager at Ecclesiastical Planning Services, said: “Raising money for charitable causes is very much part of our company ethos and as a team we were keen to support a charity that is local to us.

“We also wanted to get behind a cause which would resonate with the businesses we work with. Our funeral director partners regularly see first-hand the support hospices offer, and what they mean to people, so our local Sue Ryder hospice seemed like the perfect choice for us.”

Just nine days into their challenge and the team had already hit nearly one million steps. “We choose a challenge that everyone could be part of and achieve in their own way. Each of us has a stretch target to include more steps than we would usually do in a normal day, week, or month.

“I’m walking out with my horse; some people are stepping out with their young family and others converting steps from sporting activities. It’s been great for team building too as we have been getting together for group walks in our lunch break.”

The team set an initial target of £200 but have already raised £785 thanks to the generous support of the funeral director services they work with, colleagues and friends and family. The total amount raised by the team by the end of March will also be match-funded by the Benefact Group.

Alysia Cameron-Price, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: “We are so grateful that the Ecclesiastical Planning Services team decided to put a spring in their step to support our hospice, and to everyone who has already got behind their fantastic fundraiser. All money raised will help us continue to be there when it matters for families going through the most difficult times of their lives.”
