NEW SUSTAINABLE PIZZA DELIVERY SERVICE IN STROUD
The Prince Albert the popular pub at the top of Rodborough Hill just outside Stroud has teamed up with the community project Stroud Pedallers to get their freshly cooked pizzas to the more vulnerable and others unable to leave their homes in the Rodborough area. They are trialing the offer this week Wednesday to Friday with a bike team here ready to jump on a bike with an insulated delivery bag so the pizza arrives hot and by pedal power.
During lockdown the pub realised that bringing the exceptional music that the pub has received international recognition for to the Stroud community not be possible for a while so they have teamed up with the Barrel and Stone brand and are supplying the authentic Italian range to the customers of the CAMRA award winning pub for eat in or take away.
“We have already built up a regular clientele with people coming back after trying one of the nine varieties we are offering at the moment from our pop up kitchen. Most popular are the vegetarian celebration of courgettes, peppers, sweet red onions called The Garden Club which can also be made with vegan cheese, and the Nice and Spicy with a topping including traditional Nduja sausage, chillii, peppers - but the whole range is exceptional. We have a gluten free base that we honestly believe is the best we have ever tried, you could believe you were eating a traditional wheat base.” said Lotte the landlady who has now been at the helm for 24 years.

“We are now serving six days a week from Wednesday to Monday until 9pm. Book by calling the pub, Lotte takes the orders and ensures that side runs smoothly” says Miles, who can be found making the pizza as the orders come in. ‘Its the new Rock n Roll I keep telling myself - we miss the music but for now this is keeping our customers happy and fed, and I have discovered skills in the kitchen too. I did my food and hygiene training during lockdown and am really enjoying having a new role”
The Stroud Pedallers will be regularly delivering on a Thursday and Saturday from the 23rd of July and the pub are delighted to work with the eco team. There will be a fee after the original trial week so we try the pizza this week for a free delivery and find out how good they are.
The dedicated team are all members of Access Bike who are a Community Interest Company and this is a natural progression for them, showing resilience and building their skills with initiative over the COVID 19 pandemic. The sustainable delivery team are youth led and are nominated as one of Stroud’s Lockdown Heroes by the Stroud Town Council. They have been very busy during Lockdown delivering supplies to the housebound needing food from the Stroud Foodhub, the Co-Op as well as working with Specsavers and others.
Pizza booking can be made via 01453755600 and currently there is a radius of three miles from the Albert for deliveries.
