Man afraid of heights takes to the skies and ‘flies high’ for charity

Man afraid of heights takes to the skies and ‘flies high’ for charity

Neil Argyle (41) is ‘taking a leap’, skydiving to raise money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham.

Neil, from Port Talbot, will be taking to the skies on 19 April in memory of his wife Ceri’s sister Lisa, who received care from Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice at the end of her life.

Incredibly, the aerial adventurer is completely terrified of heights, making the fact that he will be jumping from a plane at 10,000 ft even more impressive. Neil shared: “I’d even think twice about climbing up a ladder, but I like to challenge myself and I am a very determined and motivated person, if I’ve got an idea, I will see it through.”

He explained what started him on his fundraising journey with Sue Ryder: “I heard a lovely phrase, ‘through loss and grief you’ll find a path,’ and my path has led me to fundraising. I am doing this skydive to show my appreciation to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, where Lisa was so well looked after.”

As he flies towards the date of the skydive, Neil shared: “I am looking forward to the whole experience, but I am sure on the day I will feel very emotional. I have chosen to do the skydive close to the date of Lisa’s birthday, which makes the day even more special.”

The ‘sky’s the limit’ for Neil’s fundraising adventures, he is determined to keep going and to raise as much money as possible for Sue Ryder to honour Lisa’s memory: “I want to take on a totally different challenge next year, something even grander, so watch this space!”

Rachel Ward, Community Fundraiser for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: “We are so grateful that Neil has decided to take on this incredible skydiving challenge to raise money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. The vital funds that our supporters like Neil raise means that we can provide care to people when they need it most.”
