New fundraisers at Sue Ryder hospice call out for inspirational people from across county

Two new fundraisers who have recently joined the team at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice are on the look-out for people from across Gloucestershire who want to make a real difference in their community and raise vital funds.

“If you have an idea but are unsure how to make it happen, then our fundraising team is here to help,” shares Laura Jeffries and Tamsin Grainger, who have recently joined Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice as its two new Community Fundraisers.

“There are so many fun and exciting ways to support our work through fundraising. You could organise a coffee morning, a bake sale, quiz or raffle. We also have our Starlight Hike Cheltenham taking place this October, where you can get together with family and friends or even your dog, and walk 10k under the stars to remember someone special, whilst raising vital funds.

“Fundraising is a great way to meet new people too and help us be there when it matters too. Every penny raised really does make a difference, so please reach out to us.” they added.

The funds raised help Sue Ryder to continue to provide its care and services and fill families’ last days with love, which is something close to Laura’s heart. “The hospice at home team looked after my Dad in February 2020, so I have seen first-hand the amazing care and support they offer, not only to their patients, but to the entire family too.

“The compassion shown to my family was part of the reason I wanted to join the fundraising team to help give back, as well as also do my own personal fundraising challenges along the way,” she said.

Laura, who has lived in Cheltenham all her life, previously spent seven years working in event management in the hospitality industry, but was keen to use her experience within the charity sector. “When my dad became ill it gave me more of a push to take the jump and move sectors”, she added.

Tamsin, who also lives locally in nearby Winchcombe, was already working in charity fundraising for Thames Valley Air Ambulance before she joined the hospice in July, at the same time as Laura. As a former Miss Gloucester, she has previously been involved with the work of Sue Ryder.

During her time as Miss Gloucester, Tamsin also built strong relationships with the local community, something that will remain key to her role now. “I have loved meeting lots of our supporters. I am really looking forward to developing these relationships so that I can continue to help them to hit their goals whether that be financially or whether they have a personal challenge to complete something they’ve never tried before” she added.

Laura and Tamsin have taken on fundraising feats of their own, making them the perfect people to offer advice and support to people looking for their next challenge.

“In July 2021, I held two virtual charity quizzes for Sue Ryder. I also took part in the South West Coast to Coast Ultra-Challenge walking 50km and the Cotswold Way Ultra-Challenge walking 64km in 2022, so I know just what it takes to arrange an event or be a participant of a big event.” said Laura.

Having raised thousands of pounds for a number of charities, through a number of charity fundraisers, Tamsin is full of inspirational ideas to try too: “I would love to host a history tour or arrange a dog walk to raise money for our hospice. Fundraising is a great way to have fun, give back and meet new people so do get in touch with us with your ideas!” she added.

The Cheltenham-based hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting conditions from every corner of the county, would love to hear from individuals, groups and businesses too.
