Rembrandt, one of the most popular, well known and most prolific of artists, but what is known about him. He left no diaries or memoirs. When he died in poverty 350 years ago he was buried in an unmarked grave. But he left an amazing record of his life in the remarkable self-portraits he painted during his career.

Find out what we do know, take a fresh look at his work and his life and participate in the journey of discovery on a study day, on Saturday June 29th at the Drill Hall, Chepstow from 10.30am -3.30pm with Eleanor Bird. Her popular lectures and art history courses are well known in Monmouthshire. This day is different and is limited to just 12 people. On this in-depth study day into this giant of 17th century art, exploring the development of Rembrandt's painting and setting his work in the context of Dutch artists of the period and the wider European art world, there will be the opportunity for participation and discussion. To join in, booking is essential please contact Chepstow Museum, telephone 01291 625981 between 11am - 4pm.
