Expressions in Colour: The Green-Eyed Cow
Bold strokes and brave colours, capturing expressive, playful and imaginative moments on canvas.
We are looking forward to having the ever popular Sheila Moya, exhibiting in our cafe over the Christmas period. Always colourful, with a little steer towards a different direction since last we had her exhibit. Colette Kresse exhibition coordinator
Sheila Moya’s colourful cows have truly etched themselves into the local art scene since her well-received first exhibition ‘Alternative Views’ at Taurus Crafts in 2008. ‘Expressions in Colour: The Green-Eyed Cow’ continues to explore the wonderful world of her multicoloured cows. Bold strokes and brave colours, in her distinctive energetic style, capture playful and imaginative moments on canvas.
In her latest exhibition, Sheila Moya not only explores the almost human qualities hidden within the soulful eyes of her cows but also studies the raw emotion of human expression in a selection of expressive and colourful abstract portraiture.
The exhibition showcases Sheila’s versatility with painting medium. Her cow paintings are mainly acrylic on canvas, while the portraits vary, ranging from oil to acrylic and pastel. As a tutor of portraiture and life drawing Sheila knows that, as well as colour, the medium used can considerably alter the dynamics of a painting.
Born in Chelsea, London, Sheila Moya moved, together with her family, to Wales in 1991 and although Sheila has always had an interest in art and drawing she only started experimenting with painting and colour after her Design degree in 2000. It was during that time she was introduced to and inspired by, the expressive brushstrokes and vivid colours of the Fauvist movement. “There is no doubt that colour, is my biggest inspiration. We see it everywhere of course, but I love to see it bigger, bolder and brighter. Colour can help express emotion, and in my cow paintings I wanted the feeling of fun, a happy eccentricity.”
This is Sheila’s third exhibition at Taurus Craft and 6 years since her last. A selection of prints and cards are displayed in the Taurus Crafts gift shop. For more detailed information about Sheila Moya, please visit https://thegreeneyedcow.com
