CommUNITY: Community Gallery exhibition co-curated by Rider Shafique

Gloucester

Dates: May - Aug 2021

Venue: The Museum of Gloucester

Now we have re-opened, visitors to the Museum of Gloucester will see and hear the people of Gloucester in the Community Gallery.

Using existing work (film and photography), co-curated with artist Rider Shafique, we will ask visitors to consider and respond to the questions "What is community?" "Who are you?" "What do you love?". We will share the purpose of the Community Gallery as a space to represent and empower our communities.
Is community where we live? Is it the people we choose to spend time with? Is it the food we eat? If you had to pick an object to represent your community, what would it be?

Our communities may look or sound or talk like us, or they may come from shared lineage. Communities intersect with culture, race, politics, religion and identity. People can belong to more than one community and a community is defined by those that belong to it.

CommUNITY was co-curated by Rider Shafique.

The exhibition includes photography from Rider’s Identity series and two films produced for the Gloucester History Festival | City Voices and the Gloucester Culture Trust.

The Museum of Gloucester is now open for you to visit the exhibition…
