ANNIE HUTCHINSON - Exhibition
9 JAN - 17 FEB 2018
Originally from Wales, artist Annie Hutchinson now lives a quiet life in the village of Whiteshill (near Stroud) and can often be located working from her perfectly pink garden studio, listening to circling buzzards by day and tell-tale tawnies by night.
Under the moniker of The Little Wren House Factory Annie creates her trademark characters and creations from vintage materials, using her magpie tendencies to seek out all sorts of fanciful bibelots and discarded curios to form the basis for her other-worldly folk.
Annie creates three-dimensional forms which continue to develop after her initial foray into the world of textiles creatures while studying sculpture in Cheltenham. Many traditional skills are performed in the making of these armature figures and wall pieces including needle felting, hand and machine stitching, embroidery, simple collage techniques and painted images. The work is sometimes autobiographical, depicting the irony and humour of daily life but there’s also the odd fancy and fairy tale from childhood.
Her more recent creations incorporate simple automata, Jumping Jacks and puppets, again, influenced by toys and curios of childhood, particularly from the nineteenth century.
Annie’s work has been widely exhibited at events and venues throughout the UK and can also be found in a number of private collections.
