Mining Perceptions, Sally Fawkes & Alex Ho

Cheltenham

13 - 30 June 2018

Mining Perceptions is an immersive multi-sensory exhibition by acclaimed glass artist, Sally Fawkes, and award-winning composer, Alex Ho.

Brought together by their fascination with landscape and wilderness, the artists have collaborated to create an inter-disciplinary installation that explores the entwined relationship between humankind and nature. The mesmerizing experience combines video captured by Sally at sea in the Arctic waters of Norway and music composed by Alex in response to its rhythmic movements and interplays. Through experimentation with notions of space and distance and a deep examination into the intersection between visual and sonic art forms, Mining Perceptions offers an adventurous yet meditative journey into the complexity of existence.

Glass artworks and photographic print editions by Sally Fawkes, made in response to her creative research expeditions aboard tall ship Trinovante on the Arctic coastal seas of Norway, accompany the large scale projections and musical scores.

Sally Fawkes graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 3D Design-Glass from Surrey Institute of Art and Design, UK and has received awards from both the Arts Council and Crafts Council of England. She is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and has an extensive international exhibition profile. She also works to commission for private, corporate and public clients and has 15 years of experience creating artworks for marine vessels. Her work is represented in numerous Museum and Public collections including the V&A, London, National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh, MusVerre, Sars Poteries, France, M.A.V.A., Madrid, Spain, MUDAC, Lausanne, Switzerland.
