Portraits in Clay at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum

Dates: Friday March 17, 24 and 31 2023

Artist in residence Joseph Casey introduces you to the fundamental skills and techniques required to create a portrait in clay.

Learn how to scale up or down, build bases for your sculptures and explore tools and their uses in carving and modelling. Joe, a sculptural artist, will show you how to create a good likeness.

Gain an understanding of the complexity of the head and how the form, features and pose help to express character, emotion, movement and life. Explore different methods of applying the clay to capture different effects and find your own ways of capturing a portrait in clay.

The workshops are suitable for beginners, all ages and abilities. The course is on March 17, 24 and 31 2023 10am to 2pm in The Foyle Learning Centre. The price for the entire course is £60.
