Travel Journaling Weekend - 2-Day Residential Workshop

New Brewery Arts, Cirencester

Dates: 22nd & 23rd October 2022

Before travel blogs there were travel journals, which held both pictures and vivid descriptions of exotic places, people, and cultures. Whether your holiday involves extensive travel, or a drive around the English coast, a trip away is the perfect time to start a visual diary.

This two-day course provides an introduction to drawing and watercolours, as well as an opportunity for you to experiment under guidance. Diaries can have all sorts of purposes and, with the growing popularity of bullet journals, sketchbooks and gratitude diaries, their positive effects on mindfulness and mental health are widely promoted. To keep a journal in some form is a popular ambition but rarely seen beyond the first few pages, which is understandable; writing an entry every day can seem a daunting commitment. As such, this weekend is also a chance to create a lasting habit of journaling which can either be kept purely for travel, or transition to a year round sketchbook.

Meet the Tutor:
Emma is an emerging artist and freelance illustrator who specialises in watercolours and portraiture and is known for her sketchbooks, which she makes through bookbinding.

Specialising in observational watercolours, Emma is passionate about traditional methods of drawing that are being lost as digital art takes the stage. This is visible in her work, which is inspired by the illustrators of the Golden age and is often referred to as nostalgic; reminding the viewer of their childhood. This impression is emphasised by the subjects she choses, which capture the wonder and curiosity of the world around her, with particular focus on British plants and wildlife.

Accommodation:
You will be staying in our stylish accommodation on site, The Barrel Store. Accommodation will be reserved for students for the whole weekend and you will each have a room of your own. 2-night stay includes Friday 21st October & Saturday 22nd October. An additional 1-night stay on Sunday 23rd October is an optional extra.

Catering:
The weekend is fully catered, with an evening meal as well as breakfast and lunch all provided in the cost of the workshop. A welcome dinner will be served at 8pm on Friday 21st October. Breakfast will be served from 8am - 10am on Saturday and Sunday.
