Cheltenham Lions Club to host charity choir event at town hall
Cheltenham
Dates: 25/03/2023
Venue: Cheltenham Town Hall
The Treorchy Male Choir will be performing at Cheltenham Town Hall on Saturday 25th March for a special fundraising performance, organised by Cheltenham Lions Club.
The show starts at 7.30pm with all money raised going to charities chosen by the club, including palliative, neurological and bereavement support charity, Sue Ryder, which provides care to local communities from its Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham.
Favourites including You Raise me Up and Wonderful World will be performed on night offering people the very best of Welsh choral music.
David Green, concert organiser from the Cheltenham Lions Club, said: “Cheltenham Lions Club are fortunate to have had a long association with the Treorchy Male Choir, having organized several concerts which have raised several thousand pounds. The funds raised have supported several worthy causes, including Focus (Oncology Unit, Cheltenham Hospital), the Meningitis Trust, Acorns Children’s Hospital and the Club’s Holiday Caravan at Burnham on Sea, which for the past forty years has provided holidays for local disabled and disadvantaged families.
“The Lions Club is delighted to welcome the choir back to the Town Hall following a sellout concert in 2018, the return of which has only been delayed by Covid. The proceeds this year will be divided between Sue Ryder and the Club’s Holiday Caravan.
Explaining why the concert would this year be supporting Sue Ryder, David added, “Cheltenham Lions has a long association with Sue Ryder and look forward to an enjoyable and successful evening.
“From a personal point of view this is a very special evening as the care teams from Sue Ryder cared for my wife. Their help allowed my wife to be home for the final four weeks. Thanks to all the marvelous staff at Sue Ryder.”
Tamsin Grainger, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said: “At Sue Ryder we believe that the end of someone’s life is the most important time of their life.
"Our care teams do all they can to make room for the things that matter – like spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, jokes and memories, and filling their final days with love.
“It’s truly fitting that our friends at Cheltenham Lions Club supported by the Treorchy Male Choir are helping to raise vital funds so we can be there when it matters for local families, while creating joy through music and helping to bring people together.”
Tickets cost £25 and can be purchased or collected from Leisure at Cheltenham and The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum or by calling 01242 528764.
