GingeFest is back for another year of family fun
Venue: Cotswold Area Civil Service Sports Association
The popular Cheltenham-based fundraiser which combines an evening of comedy (Friday 15th July) and a day of music and family fun (Saturday 16th July) returns to Cotswold Area Civil Service Sports Association, in loving memory of local resident Angie Wakefield.
This July, Cheltenham based taxi driver, Alan Wakefield, will be hosting the third annual GingeFest, and with a brand new line up of comedy and more child-friendly Saturday fun, the festival in memory of his late wife Angie, promises to be bigger and better than ever - with all money raised going to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice who supported Angie in her final days.
At the 2019 GingeFest, Alan was able to raise a fantastic £3600 for Sue Ryder and in total has handed over more than £25k to the charity, which combines money from the festival and a number of other fundraising activities as part of the committees' GingePledge.
GingeFest 2022 kicks off on the 15th of July with a comedy night at the Cotswold Civil Service Club. Doors will open at 7pm with – brand new for this year - comedians including Kevin Daniel, Tim Hoskins, and headliner Josh Pugh taking to the stage, brought together by long-standing MC, Cerys Nelmes.
This will be followed by a fabulous family fun day on Saturday 16th July. Doors will open at 11.30am with a jam-packed day of the live entertainment kicking off with kids entertainer Showtime Shane followed by dance acts and lots of music.
There will also be face painting for the kids and stalls offering everything from Pick N Mix to candles and cosmetics. The inflatables will return for another year and are set to be even better than before - all washed down with a variety of refreshments including a BBQ, pizza, crepes and ice cream, plus a pop up bar selling gin, rums and real ale.
Alan, who has been involved with the Cotswold Civil Service Club - the event venue - for more than 40 years, said: “We were so close to getting GingeFest off the ground last year, but another lockdown hit, and sadly we had to cancel. It’s also five year’s since Angie died so for both those reasons, we really want to make sure this year is more enjoyable than ever, whilst raising even more money for our local hospice.”
Angie sadly died from cancer in 2017, and since, Alan and his daughter, plus their friends and family have been committed to raising funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice who in the words of Alan “were phenomenal in their care of my Angie”. Even after the pandemic hit, they weren’t deterred and found other ways to support the charity (where restrictions allowed), including: hosting a Boxing Day charity football match in 2020 and Gingeoween, a Halloween themed family fun fundraiser in 2021.
Alysia Cameron-Price, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said, ‘Alan and everyone on the committee are truly amazing and have never let anything stop them in their feat to raise as much money as they can for Sue Ryder so we can continue to be there when it matters for families going through the most difficult times of their lives. We would like to say a big thank you to them all and encourage the local community to get behind them by snapping up tickets as soon as they can!”
