Rubber Duck Race

13 January 2019

Time: 11:00-14:00pm

Enjoy a quacking day out and raise vital funds for local hospice

Families in Gloucestershire are in for a real ‘tweet’ this weekend when Rubber Duck Racing comes to Pittville Park in Cheltenham to mark National Rubber Duck Day on Sunday 13th January.

The event is being organised entirely by big hearted volunteers and sponsored by Puddle Ducks Gloucestershire to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

The fun starts from 11am on Sunday 13th January at Pittville Park, close to the boating lake.

Families can enjoy all the fun of the ‘rubber duck’ races setting off at 11am, 11.20am, 11.40am, 12noon and 12.20pm, where they can sponsor a duck at a cost of £3 a duck. The Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Bernard Fisher, will start the first race and the final race will started by Cheltenham MP, Alex Chalk, to bring proceedings to a close.

There is also ‘Hook a Duck’ fun, a ‘Name the Duck’ competition and an absolutely ‘quacking’ grand charity raffle with prizes from GWSR, WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Cheltenham Racecourse and a selection of goodies all raising vital funds for the palliative care and bereavement charity.

There will be lots of tasty food and drink to enjoy from The Boathouse Café, The Little Prosecco Van, The Old Dough Hook Pizzas and Woozy Pig as well as family fun entertainment.

Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice volunteer, Paulette Valois is helping organise the event. She said, “The support we have had for our National Rubber Duck Day races has just been absolutely amazing and I want to give a special mention to our sponsors, Puddle Ducks Gloucestershire, as their support means every penny raised on the day can go straight to the hospice.”

“Our Rubber Ducks have all been in training over the past week ready for the big day and we’re expecting a great turn out as they take to the water!”

“Why not pull on your wellies and come join us for a fun family day out, helping to raise much needed funds for the Sue Ryder Nurses, care team and support staff at Leckhampton Court Hospice so they can be there for local families when it matters.”

Alysia Cameron Price is Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. She added, “The support shown for the National Rubber Duck Day Races has been phenomenal, and our wonderful volunteer Paulette has been working so hard pulling together local people and companies to put on what I know will be a fab family fundraising day out. You’d be ‘quackers’ to miss it!”
