Summer Choral Spectacular at Gloucester Cathedral
Gloucester
Dates: Saturday 10th May 2025
Venue:
Gloucester Choral Society Summer Concert at 7pm on 10th May, 2025 at Gloucester Cathedral
Please join us, in the unique acoustic of Gloucester Cathedral, for our final concert of the season which is packed with a feast of choral goodies for you to enjoy before you head off to warmer climes! The programme begins and ends with two gorgeous Bach motets, 'Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden' and 'Der Geist hilft unser Scwachheit auf.'
In between we have the first two of Parry’s ‘Songs of Farewell’, an inspiring collection of choral compositions written during the First World War. The evocative and spiritual struggles of the time are exemplified in 'I know my soul hath power to know all things' and 'My Soul, there is a Country.'
The main course in our programme is Rheinberger’s Mass in E flat Major. It is a most beautifully written piece and a delight for singers to sing. Written for double choir throughout, it provides glorious textural variation. Come, see, and hear this fantastic work for yourself.
Then, to cap off the main courses, we have a world Premiere by composer Russell Hepplewhite. Ten British poets have written inspirational poems, based on aspects of modern life, and Russell has set these to music in the choral collection, 'Living Voices.'
Pam Ayres wrote the poem 'Leaving' and Gloucester Choral Society has been selected to sing its first performance here.
Led by our acclaimed choral and orchestral director, Adrian Partington and supported by our brilliant organist, Jonathan Hope, a thrilling music-filled event awaits you!
Please come along and join us.
