Why Calories Don't Count

Cheltenham

Date/Time: Sun 13 Jun 2021 6:30pm - 7:25pm

Here’s the thing: according to Giles Yeo, most people have no idea that all the calorie counts you see everywhere today are wrong. In Why Calories Don’t Count, he challenges the conventional model and demonstrates that all calories are not created equal. He addresses why popular diets appear to succeed – at least in the short term – and why they ultimately fail. Once you understand why calories don’t count, you can begin to make different decisions about how you choose to eat, learning what you really need to be counting instead.

This event will be live-streamed for free and available on-demand via the CheltSciFest Player. To register, click here.

Dr Giles Yeo, MBE got his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1998, after which he joined the lab of Prof Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, working on the genetics of severe human obesity. Giles Yeo is now a programme leader at the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit in Cambridge and his research currently focuses on the influence of genes on feeding behaviour & body-weight..He is also a broadcaster and author, presenting science documentaries for the BBC’s ‘Horizon’ & ‘Trust Me I’m A Doctor’. His first book Gene Eating was published in December 2018, and his second Why Calories Don’t Count came out in June 2021.
