Corinium Museum is excited about being one of the partner museums for the BBC Civilisations Festival. The festival began on Friday 2 March and runs to Sunday 11 March and showcases collections relating to mosaics and Roman identity. A variety of events is engaging visitors of all ages, from families to the culturally curious adult visitor.

The Corinium Museum is working with Cleo Mussi, an internationally renowned mosaic artist from Stroud on a new project entitled ‘Cultural Mosaic.’ Cleo will demonstrate the art of mosaics with members of the public on Saturday 10 March from 10am to 1pm to create a contemporary piece in response to the theme of Identity. Visitors will be able to get hands on and learn about mosaic art as well as increase their knowledge of archaeology and ancient history. Cultural Mosaic is part of the BBC Civilisations Festival and has received Art Fund support.

The Roman Society has given funding to the Museum to create a new educational session for Key Stage 2 pupils. Elements of the session, entitled Roman Identity, will be shared on 10 March as part of our Civilisations special event day, perfect for visiting teachers and curious primary school children to explore the Museum’s educational offer.

On the evening of 8 March, the museum invites the public to explore its galleries for the evening for free, between 5 pm and 8pm. BBC Radio Gloucestershire will be on site featuring a live evening broadcast showcasing ‘Civilisations.’ Join Steve Kitchen as he explores the museum for Corinium Live.

Take a closer look at the Corinium Museum cockerel and discover a world of treasures from UK Museums on the Civilisations Augmented Reality App. The Corinium cockerel is revealed in a way you’ve never seen before.

Museum events over the festival period will include a Civilisations themed family trail, discovery tables exploring Identity, an afternoon talk and gallery talks showcasing objects from the collections. See our website for further details.
