Open Air Tour of The Scarlet Pimpernel

Jenny Wren Productions presents

The Scarlet Pimpernel

By Baroness Orczy

Adapted by Jenny Wicks

We seek him here, we seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere!

"One of the funniest, quirkiest bundles of talent ever to lighten Gloucestershire’s doorstep" - Cotswold Life.

Open Air Tour of The Scarlet Pimpernel

It’s 1792 and France is deep in the throes of revolution. The aristocracy are holding out for a hero, and one swoops in from across the Channel.

A tale of England and France, of rich and poor, of divided loyalties and of a mysterious hero saving French nobles from the guillotine – just for fun!
A small troupe of actors adopt a variety of disguises, accents and probably some beards, as Baroness Orczy’s classic adventure story gets the Jenny Wren treatment.

Fresh from success with a fantastic community production at Gloucester Cathedral of Coram Boy, Jenny Wren Productions return to an outdoor venue near you with a very original treatment of this ever popular tale of love, adventure, betrayal and redemption. Theatre Director Jenny Wicks has adapted the novel bringing her own brand of sparkling wit with a dash of irreverence, to create a fun and original version.

Jenny explained “I have always loved the book and wanted to produce an open air theatre version. We have performed many adaptations of classics including The Three Musketeers, Around the World in 80 Days, Sense & Sensibility, Emma and The Hound of the Baskervilles and always brought something a little different to each one. However, this is the first time that I have actually adapted the original myself and I've loved it. It's been a real challenge but ultimately exciting and rewarding too and I hope that audiences will enjoy the final result. There are the usual Jenny Wren touches with a dash of something a little extra too! Please come along and see for yourselves.”

Vive la Révolution! Liberté! Égalité! Fraternité! And knitting!
