An exquisite Evening of Flute and Harp

Ileana Ruhemann and Gillian Tingay promise you a magical evening.  Elegant and charming music for flute and harp: the Tetbury Goods Shed are delighted to host this accomplished duo from the eminent Chamber Ensemble The Fibonacci  Sequence.

Ileana Ruhemann – Flute

Ileana Ruhemann won an instrumental exhibition at Cambridge University where she read Music, and, upon graduating in 1983, won the only place open to foreign flautists at the Paris Conservatoire.

She has played Principal Flute in most of the major orchestras in the UK, including the BBC Symphony, London Symphony, Royal Opera House, Philarmonia, London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic, and has made many appearances as concerto soloist on the South Bank and at St John’s, Smith Square.

She was appointed Principal Flute of the BBC Concert Orchestra in 1989 and combines this position with a career as a soloist and chamber musician.

In 2016, Ileana was invited to play concertos by Malcolm Arnold with the BBC Concert Orchestra at Snape Maltings,Aldeburgh and in Bucharest,Romania. She has just completed a recording of music by Jonathan Harvey with Gemini.

Gillian Tingay – Harp

Gillian Tingay was awarded a scholarship to study with Marisa Robles at the Royal College of Music when she was 15. She now gives solo, duo and chamber recitals and has a varied concerto schedule of classical and modern works.

Her engagements have included concertos with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Orchestra of St. John’s Smith Square, the Northern Sinfonia, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Budapest String Orchestra, and the RPO as well as double concertos with Marisa Robles and James Galway.Gillian has broadcast on Radio 3, Classic FM and on television.

She is a member of the highly acclaimed chamber ensemble The Fibonacci Sequence. Her numerous CD recordings include: the flute and harp works of JM Damase, ‘Fantasie’, ‘Beyond the Dark’, and ‘Harp’ with the Fibonacci Sequence.

Gillian has been the harpist for many TV series and films, including Band of Brothers, Inspector Morse, Lewis, Endeavour, Lord of the Rings, Stardust, Young Victoria, and The Impossible. Gillian is also an experienced teacher who has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin and St. Paul’s Girls schools.
