Local music festival hits the high note for Sue Ryder

Local music festival hits the high note for Sue Ryder

Popular music festival Gingefest which took place last weekend was a huge success, raising over £6,300 for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court hospice in Cheltenham.

The much-loved community event Gingefest returned last weekend with its signature mix of music and family entertainment. Created in memory of Angie Wakefield, the festival was launched by her family and friends to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, where Angie received end-of-life care. One of the organisers, Angie’s daughter Gemma (40), from Cheltenham, shared what inspired them to start their fundraising journey:

“After Mum was diagnosed, she went into Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. The team there were amazing - so kind, supportive, and made us feel welcome from day one. She was only there a short while, but the impact the team had was lasting. We wanted to give something back because they rely so much on donations to continue their work.”

This year’s festival once again delivered a fantastic day of entertainment, with live music kicking off at midday and culminating in a packed silent disco after 9pm. Attendees were treated to a vibrant mix of performances, including a lively set from Chill Dance Academy, as well as live music from a number of bands and artists. Festivalgoers also enjoyed a range of food stalls, games, and activities.

Gemma reflected on the success of the event and what makes Gingefest so special: “The heart of it has always been the same - community, music, and doing something Mum would’ve absolutely loved. She liked to party and would’ve loved seeing everyone together, dancing and enjoying themselves.”

Putting on Gingefest was a real team effort, Gemma shared: “I’d like to give special thanks to the current organising committee - Alan, Justin, Demi, Duncan, Sherry, Karen, Maxine, Reece, and Charis - as well as to former members. Also, thanks to everyone who sponsored the event and all bands who have performed for free over the years, especially Racing Mars who have supported us at every Gingefest event. Finally, thanks to everyone who has attended our events. We couldn’t do it without you all!”
