Dates: 31/10/2026

Venue: Christchurch, Abbeydale

A presentation starting at 2.00pm entitled "The Malvern Hills Lost Fritillaries Project - Connectivity is the key & Wider Landscape Management is the solution" is being given by guest speaker, Mel Mason, the chair of West Midlands Branch of Butterfly Conservation. He has been leading the Malvern Hills Lost Fritillary project for several years and has had remarkable success, particularly with the reintroduction of Pearl bordered Fritillary. He has bred these butterflies in his garden in Malvern, with necessary permission from NE and BC, ready to release them on sites as part of the project.
The sites are in Worcestershire and also in other counties, including Gloucestershire. In fact, the most successful site in 2025 was in Gloucestershire on the slopes of Chase End Hill, Bromesberrow Estate. Mel is also working with a local ecologist on the feasibility of a reintroduction at a site near to Dursley.
The Gloucestershire Branch photo competition entries will then be shown followed by refreshments (hot and cold drinks and cake) for which cash donations would be appreciated. It is open to all, not just members of Butterfly Conservation, so, if you know of someone who may be interested, please let them know.
