A feast-ival to remember – Bristol care home residents serve up a food festival for the community

Bristol

Venue: Trymview Hall Care Home

A care home in Bristol has served up a feast to tickle every taste bud as it hosted its first-ever community food festival.

Care UK’s Trymview Hall on Southmead Road, transformed its grounds and threw open its doors for a flavour-packed day of great food, community and connection as it celebrated the nation’s shared love of feel-good favourites.

The festival was part of Care UK’s ‘A Taste of Home’ campaign – a nationwide initiative intended to bring generations and communities together over food. Care homes up and down the country threw open their doors to the public to showcase what life in a care home is really like.

On the day, the team at Trymview Hall fired up the barbecue, expertly manned by Head Chef, Darren, a current finalist for a national care chef award.

Guests enjoyed a delicious feast from the grill, including jerk chicken, Jamaican pumpkin soup, salmon and a selection of Caribbean-inspired desserts. Residents ran the refreshments stall, where they offered a range of tipples inspired by International Beer Day.

Zoe Stipp, resident at Trymview Hall, said: “I absolutely loved getting to try so many different things. The chicken was particularly lovely and had so much flavour!

“I really enjoyed the summer barbecue too. It reminded me of the street parties I remember from when I was younger, with everyone coming together, enjoying themselves and having some lovely food.”

Whilst tucking into their treats, attendees were entertained by local performers, It Takes Two, and were able to explore the home’s facilities and meet the team to learn more about what their person-centred care looks like day to day.

Nicole Anderson, Home Manager at Trymview Hall, said: “We are always looking for exciting ways to support residents in leading fulfilling lives, and food has such a powerful way of bringing people together.

“Many residents are passionate about cooking and love sharing their favourite dishes and the memories behind them. Taking inspiration from them to create the day’s menu and share it with our community was so special, as were the drinks that the residents themselves served up!

“We had a wonderful time providing A Taste of Home and we’re already looking forward to welcoming even more visitors to our upcoming events!”
