Kicking off! Stroud care home residents team up with young footballers for matchday magic

Football fever has officially kicked off at a care home in Stroud as residents welcomed a local club for an afternoon of sporting fun.

Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road in Ebley, teamed up with Hucclecote Youth Football Club to take part in a sports day-style collection of games and join the nation in celebrating the huge summer of sport.

To begin, residents and children participated in a competitive penalty shootout, followed by some lively egg-and-spoon races. At the end of the afternoon, medals and trophies were presented to celebrate everyone’s efforts and hard-fought wins.

To top off the day, attendees sat back and tucked into some delicious football-themed cakes as a perfect ending to the event.

Michael Clapham, resident at Scarlet House, said: "I've always loved football, so having our own World Cup Sports Day was brilliant. It brought back wonderful memories of watching England play over the years, and it was lovely to see everyone laughing, cheering each other on and enjoying themselves together."

The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Goal-den Moments' initiative, which aims to bring generations together and encourage residents to reminisce about cherished football memories while sharing new experiences.

Adrian Boldog, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “We had a ball hosting a sports day for residents, especially with fantastic support from the young footballers!

“For many people living here, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions. This event allowed us to honour these special moments and enjoy some matchday magic all over again.
