A helping hand: Gloucestershire housebuilder raises over £30,000 for local children’s hospice

A housebuilder in Gloucestershire is celebrating after raising over £30,000 for a local children’s hospice over the past year.

Barratt Bristol, currently building at Winnycroft in Gloucester and Ladden Garden Village in Yate, has supported its charity of the year, James Hopkins Trust, since August 2025 through fundraising and voluntary work – donating a total of £30,560.28 to the cause.

James Hopkins Trust opened its site at Kites Corner in 2003 to provide nursing respite for Gloucestershire’s life-limited and life-threatened young children.

The housebuilder has recently been helping to restore the hospice’s sensory and memorial gardens. Nine Barratt Bristol team members rolled up their sleeves to clean the outdoor play equipment, de-weed and cut the grass, before ending the day jet washing the patio area.

As well as improving the hospice’s outdoor area, the housebuilder has also supported the charity by hosting fundraising events such as walking the Tarka Trail, a 26-mile hike in Barnstaple.

Laura Brooker, Fundraiser at James Hopkins Trust, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Barratt Bristol for their support over the past year and their generous donation of £30,560.28 which has been hugely appreciated by the whole charity.

“We would also like to thank the team for their time spent volunteering with us here at Kite’s Corner to help maintain our sensory garden and create an area where our children can enjoy being outside and playing safely.

“Donations such as this allow us to continue our vital work of supporting infants and children that live with life-limiting or threatening conditions and their families. Thank you, Barratt Bristol!”

Looking to the year ahead, Barratt Bristol has recently pledged to support Children's Hospice South West, a charity which provides hospice care for babies, children and young people in the region living with life-limiting conditions, in addition to wider support for their families.
