The Alchemist - Cheltenham Race Days - Brunch & Cocktail £18 - 9am – 2pm

What better way to start a Racing Day than to get a brunch fit for a king and the place to do it has to be The Alchemist located in the Brewery Quarter, Cheltenham. We were fortunate enough to be invited to try their race day brunch menu.

When entering, the centre piece of this venue is the bar. Running almost the entire length of the building, with the low lighting, copper shelving and clever use of mirrors, it focuses your attention on the art of the mixology, that is about to begin right in front of you.

Opting for The LIGHTBULB MOMENT, with Gin, Pimms and fiery ginger beer, which guaranteed to perk you up for the day, and a BUBBLEBATH, an option for any sweet toothed of your group, we watched as the magic took shape before sipping and enjoying all the flavours. Chances are, once you have one of these with your Brunch, you will be heading straight back after the races, for another (or three).

Most Cheltenham locals will already know of the theatrical drink offerings, with spacious table placings and the comfort of the seats that are on offer, but what about the food?

After a sip and taking in the full ambience, we opted for the following:

THE FULL ALCHEMIST, a refined tasty full English, with Lincolnshire style sausages that we were told were exclusive made for them, after tasting they were the star of the plate and worth the bragging rights!

PANCAKE STACK WITH | smoked bacon & maple syrup, served with a syringe of maple syrup. The fun of injecting it where you like and finding pools of it between the cakes was great. The dish was so tasty, soft, fluffy, not too sweet and with the perfect balance of salty bacon it was a perfect second dish.

BREAKFAST BURRITO, eggs, bacon, cheese and hash browns, all wrapped up in a tortilla. There is no need for cutlery, perfect for anyone who knows that breakfast isn’t complete without a healthy dollop of cheese.

Each option, combined with the drinks felt indulgent, even for Brunch, but isn’t that what a day at the races is all about?

The Alchemist Brunch option is an absolute “must try treat” and whether you are heading to the races or not, the venue promises an offer of other food, just as delicious and decadent as their drinks, later in the day as well.

The staff did warn us that they are expecting to be busy, so to avoid disappointment we would suggest you book now. Our advice, this is not an experience to be missed.
