REVIEW: Top Dog Film Festival

Cheltenham

Top dog film festival presents a ‘cinematic celebration honouring the bond between dogs and their people’.

The film festival opens with a short, passionate introduction, outlining the origins of the inspirational festival.

It started in Australia in 2017 and has now expanded to the UK for the first time this year.

The festival consisted of 9 short films showcasing the beautiful bond between dogs and their owners. Each one created by different Independent film makers around the globe. The short films range from a full time dog photographer in New York to a heartwarming dedication for a beautiful dog Arthur who travelled a breathtaking 10,400km with an adventure racing team to find a home.

The Dogist, a full-time dog photographer, was a personal favourite of mine. Elias Weiss Friedman has the dream job of capturing candid photos of dogs across New York City. The way he captures the photos by interacting with the dogs on the streets was amusing but the outcome of the photos were very professional.

Another inspiring story I loved was ‘For The Love Of Dogs’. This short film thought outside the box when the director took their approach to capturing the loving bond between the human companionship with their dogs. Each shot was focused on the animal, during an interview with the owner. The simplicity yet stylish approach really supported the main focus of their hilarious wonders of their natural relationship. From a dog owner myself it  captures the true reality and personality of dogs.

The audience even had the chance to win some dog related prizes during the interval. You simply filled out a contact card to be added to a random prize draw. Unfortunately my name wasn’t chosen but the winners were very happy with their gifts! It was a great addition to the evening

The film festival concluded with a high appreciation towards the supports of the film festival. Including the national pet show, Beco Pets and Dogs For Good.

Dogs For Good are a unique UK charity, training dogs to help adults and children with disabilities. I had the chance to listen to their amazing stories and even got to meet a beautiful dog who was currently in training.

The Top Dog Film Festival was an amazing experience, learning about inspiring but entertaining stories between dogs and their owners. If you are a dog love, like myself, The Top Dog Film Festival is a perfect evening for you.
