Everest conquered - an inspirational talk by Tom Clowes in support of Cancer Research UK

Cheltenham

Dates: 08/03/2024

Venue: Old Classical Theatre, Cheltenham College, GL53 7LD

The inspirational account of Tom's successful climb on the SE Ridge on Everest, where he and his brother became the first British brothers to stand on the summit together.
Tom recalls how his team pulled together in this wild and hostile environment; the feelings when they heard that three Sherpas had been killed in the notoriously treacherous icefall above basecamp; how four members returned from the summit with serious frostbite in bitterly cold temperatures; and the huge emotions he felt to finally stand on top of the world! The lecture includes slides and video footage. Come and listen to Tom speak with enormous passion and enthusiasm, not just on the climbing but also about the remote Sherpa people living in this harsh environment high in the hills.
