Over 30 Venues celebrate Cheltenham Beer Week
Cheltenham
Friday 13th September to Sunday 22nd September 2019
Cheltenham Beer Week runs from Friday 13th September to Sunday 22nd September. Bars, pubs, restaurants, bottle shops and brewers have signed up to host a wide variety of beery events. Expect ‘meet the brewer’ evenings, food and beer matching, tutored tastings, beer quizzes, music and more.
Detailed information on venues, events, times and all the Ale Trails can be found on the link below with links to social media for the latest news updates.
What’s on during Beer Week?
There are opportunities to meet great brewers and learn more about beer, like at the ‘Tiley's Tap Takeover’ at the Railway pub, New Street. It’s a chance to taste six beers brewed at Tiley's (the Salutation Inn at Ham) and meet legendary brewer Jonny Mills, one of Europe’s finest brewers.
Dog lovers can try the ‘Barking Mad Ale Trail’. Go ‘walkies’ between the Exmouth Arms, the Strand and the Royal (Charlton Kings) and then, by completing some fun challenges and picking up some clues between the pubs, owners will receive a free pint of beer and a refreshing bottle of canine friendly ‘dog beer’.
There are two events at Cheltenham Motor Club, the ‘Big Wheel of Cheese’ (a 9 cheese, 9 beer/cider masterclass) and the ‘10th Anniversary Wheel Ale Festival’.
You can drink and still stay fit by practising ‘Beer Yoga’ at the Strand. Alternatively, visit the launch of the annual ‘International Rainbow Project 2019’ at Favourite Beers, where seven selected UK brewers (including Cheltenham’s DEYA) have collaborated with seven highly respected US West Coast brewers. Try mixing your own beer/spirit combo at the ‘Boiler Maker BBQ’ event (with Cotswold Brewing) at the Outdoor Inn.
Win Prizes
Cheltenham Beer Week maps show all of the participating venues on a series of five ‘Ale Trails’. By simply collecting stamps, at trail venues, you could win beery prizes for each completed trail. Ale trails are a great way to find out about pubs, clubs, bars, breweries and shops, which you may otherwise never visit. Maps are available at all participating venues.
Beer Week Collaboration Beer
Eight Gloucestershire breweries have joined together (at Stroud Brewery) to brew ‘Star Session IPA’, a special organic beer for Cheltenham Beer Week. In addition to Stroud Brewery these are Battledown, Brewhouse and Kitchen (Cheltenham), Corinium Ales, Cotswold Brewing, DEYA, Gloucester Brewery and Goffs Brewery.
Star Session IPA is an unfined 4.4% organic beer which is suitable for vegans. Hazy, rather than crystal clear, the beer has a crisp flavour which is perfectly balanced with aromatic hops (El Dorado, Simco and Idaho) and dry hopped to give a rounded and very moreish session IPA. It can be found at any of the participating venues during Beer Week, either as cask real ale, in cans or as draught keg.
Profits from the sale of Star Session IPA will go to the groundbreaking National Star college, whose students (once again) designed the graphics for the collaboration beer. Last year’s Beer Week raised £7,800 for National Star.
