Relaxed Opening - Autism Awareness

We welcome children and adults on the autism spectrum at all times at The John Moore Museum. However, we also understand that there can be challenges for people on the spectrum when visiting public spaces, and that they and their families can experience judgement and misunderstanding. Our Relaxed opening times are a designated period of time when the museum is fairly quiet, providing a quiet and calm space to explore.

What can you expect during relaxed opening hours:

• Visual Story – this is always available on our website, but this document, based around photographs of the museum, can help people prepare for their visit.
• Staff and Volunteers – members of our team are always available to tell you more about the museum or help you find your way.
• Noise – We will make sure that our background music will be switched off during these hours.
• Touch and senses –. We have sensory maps available on the website, which will give you an idea as to sensory stimuli in the different areas of our site. As you explore the site, there is plenty of opportunities to touch objects and try on costumes too!
• Trails and Activity Backpacks – There are some children’s trails available from the Front Desk that can help focus a visit to the museum by enabling young people to work towards something as they move around the sites.

Admission:

Adult: £3.50, Seniors & Students £3.00, Children £1.50

(Tickets include admission to the John Moore Museum, the Merchant’s House and Gardens)

Pre-booking is not required.
