THE CHORAL, film screening

Chepstow

Dates: 17/04/2026

Venue: The Drill Hall Chepstow, Lower Church Street, NP16 5HJ

It's 1916 and as World War 1 rages on, the Choral Society in a Yorkshire town has lost most of its men to the army and its new choirmaster (Ralph Fiennes) must find new singers and take refuge in making music together.
Written by National Treasure Alan Bennett with his usual wit and warmth and directed by Nicholas Hytner (their 4th film partnership) it's about the men left behind, too old too young, or already broken by war, and the women who have to deal with their repressed emotions as well as the men's... and of course the precious power of music, to unite and inspire communities. even in the darkest of times. With a star cast of familiar faces from stage and screen, including Roger Allam, Alun Armstrong, Mark Addy and Simon Russell Beale.
Cert 12A
Starts 7.30pm
Tickets £6 online in advance (reserved seats) or at the door from 7pm. Bar.
