Pixie Village sets up summer camp at Sudeley Castle

Take the trail and meet the mischievous little sprites of Pixie Village

Amidst the arrival of the hugely popular Fantasy Forest Festival, a family of playful pixies have set up camp in Sudeley Castle’s nature trail, and are inviting visitors to explore their Pixie Village from 30 July to 31 August.

Whether you are fans of the mischief-making Cornish pixies from Harry Potter or the clever and cunning creatures from Artemis Fowl, children of all ages will delight in discovering tiny homes of the woodland people through their magical village at the Cotswold attraction.

During a fun filled visit to Sudeley Castle, visitors can head out on the nature trail to find Pixie Village instructions on large boards, and find lots of exciting things to do and see, as they wind along the trail, pixie spotting!

From Fairytale Book House to the Portobello Penthouse, young visitors are invited to take part in pixie themed tasks, along the outdoor nature trail, learning fun facts about pixies from their colourful dwellings to charming companions.

The miniature magical people are known to throw merry parties and shower blessings across the great British countryside, using their powers to bring a smile to faces of their human friends. Young visitors are invited to dress up in their finest fairy, pixie or adventure story costumes, and they might just enchant them to join a giddy dance or send them on their way with a blessing over their head!

General Manager, Shane Samarawikrema says: “The Pixie Village at Sudeley Castle promises an enchanting family day out this summer. Our magical gardens have fallen under the spell of these spritely creatures and are bursting with bright blooms and wildlife, offering a chance to play like real pixie folk, dance amidst the blossom and discover the secrets of forest folklore.

“Our regal castle rooms and the beautifully restored St. Mary’s Church are all now open, as well as the beloved Pheasantry and adventure playground, complete with a giant fort, zip wire and more. We can’t wait to welcome families back this summer.”

More must-sees include the recently refurbished Royal Sudeley 1000, Trials, Triumphs and Treasures exhibition in the west wing, which is brimming with priceless objects and curiosities that illustrate the remarkable history of the castle and its owners, and don’t miss the resident Sudeley Kingfisher sculpture near the Visitor Centre, which forms part of the dazzling new Cotswold Kingfisher Trail.

A range of freshly prepared light bites and snacks are available from the Castle Kitchen Pantry on arrival, while the Terrace Café, located in the Banqueting Hall, offers a wider menu of speciality drinks, snacks and hot and cold food, made using locally sourced ingredients.

Past-Times Historical bring the Tudor Court to Sudeley Castle on a royal progress. Meet Katherine Parr and hear tales of Tudor life, what they ate, how they dressed and even try your hand at a bit of dancing!

September
Sunday 5 September – Katherine Parr Day

Past-Times Historical bring Katherine Parr, her husband Thomas Seymour and their young wards Princess Elizabeth and Lady Jane Grey as they walk their grounds sharing stories of their times at Sudeley Castle.

Miles Coverdale, almoner to Katherine Parr, will talk of her life, love and times as the last wife of Henry VIII in St Mary’s Church. Using music, readings and video we tell the largely unknown story of this incredible Queen and her journey from obscurity to the heart of English history and on to her final resting place at Sudeley Castle. Stepmother to two Queens, “Bloody Mary” and Elisabeth I, Queen, Wife and Lover, Katherine’s life story resonates through the ages.
