Two nationally recognised dancers from Stroud district are returning home this summer to run local workshops aimed at inspiring the next generation of performers.

Lucy Waine, originally from Dursley, and Sophie Chinner, who came from North Nibley, will run the sessions at the recently opened Severn Dance Studios in Cam during July and August.

Lucy is a First Artist at Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Sophie, who performs under the name Fi Caspia, recently worked with Madonna. Both went to The Sally Prout School of Dancing.

“It will be very special to return to the place where it all began for me,” said Royal Ballet trained Lucy, 25.

“My professional career was made possible by those first lessons that I took with Sally. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today with a career in professional ballet.

“I’m looking forward to giving back to young talent during the workshop, giving them some of the knowledge I have learnt along the way.”

And former Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School pupil Sophie, 26, added: “I am overjoyed to be returning to the The Sally Prout School of Dancing. I was a student there for ten years and it is the place that ignited my passion for dance.

“To return home to share some of what I have learnt from working as a freelance dancer is a true honour.“

Sally, who has run her school for 45 years, said she was delighted to see two of her star pupils back to help other young dancers reach their potential.

“To welcome Lucy and Sophie back to teach their masterclass is a real pleasure especially because they have had such successful careers in ballet and dance,” she said.

“They will bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our students this summer and I hope they also really do inspire our next generation of dancers here in Stroud district.”

Lucy’s Giselle workshop is taking place 8th August and Sophie’s Contemporary Creative Workshops for children and adults is happening on 28th July at Severn Dance Studios in Verdant Business Park in Cam where the The Sally Prout School of Dancing is based.
