REVIEW: Hatherley Park 80th Birthday Party was a great success!

Cheltenham

Saturday 13th July 2019

Hatherley Park, Cheltenham was packed full of people and of all ages and politicians of all parties to celebrate 80 years since the opening of the park.

The event was a great success and attended by everyone from regular dog walkers to people who were visiting the town for Cheltenham Music Festival. One of the attendees reminisced about coming to Hatherley Park when her children were young and was there on this occasion with her great-grandchildren and so many generations of her family have enjoyed the park. Another visitor was sitting on the bench that she had bought to remember her husband, who loved Hatherley Park. An elderly lady, whose carer had brought her from Bishops Cleeve to listen to the band was thoroughly enjoying the afternoon and the community spirit.

In Alex Chalk MP's speech, he encouraged us all to applaud the man who had been at the park on its opening day 80 years earlier. He also asked us to thank The Friends of Hatherley Park, who work tirelessly to fundraise for equipment for the park and who gather on a Thursday afternoon to weed, plant and maintain the park, in particular, Lorna Robson who has chaired the group for 17 years.

Well done to everyone involved in the Hatherley Park and the organisation of the 80th party.
