REVIEW: Midnight Dancer at the Everyman Theatre

Strictly Come Dancing’s Nikita Kuzmin steps into the spotlight in his first ever solo tour around the UK, Midnight Dancer. Flashy and fabulous, Nikita is a six-time dance champion and a Strictly star, so this performance promises to be a toe-tapping time at the theatre.

 

 

This Moulin Rouge-inspired story transforms the Everyman into the hottest nightclub in town, featuring booming tracks, sparkly outfits, and high kicks worthy of the Strictly stage. The choreography is outstanding, featuring all the best dances that Strictly fans would expect, such as the Argentine Tango and the Salsa.

The musical medleys, accompanied by Cabaret singer Rebecca Lisewski, are broken up by Nikita himself, clearly enjoying every moment while addressing the audience with cheeky monologues, banter, and Q&As.

 

 

The audience was also fantastic at this performance, full of hardcore Nikita fans cheering for every song. The atmosphere was electric and ended in a well-deserved standing ovation. We loved the very cute moment when a young fan got her homemade “Nikita you’re a star!” sign actually signed on-stage by Nikita, with a high  five and hug thrown in. I would say be prepared for some audience participation, but if you’re a fan of Nikita, you’re already raring to go and buzzing to be a part of this fantastic performance.

 

 

Please note that this performance features bright strobe lights and loud music throughout.

Overall this performance was a super fun night out at the amazing Everyman Theatre. Bathed in neon lights and tapping our toes to the music, we thoroughly enjoyed Midnight Dancer. Nikita’s tour ends in Cheltenham on Saturday 24 May, so don’t delay and get your tickets now! And remember… keep dancing!
