The Nook On Five celebrates success at Cheltenham Literature Festival

Cheltenham

Venue: The Nook On Five

The Nook On Five, Cheltenham’s only rooftop restaurant, celebrates four sold out events across Cheltenham Literature Festival 2025.

Taking place last week (October 12-19), the annual festival welcomed ticket holders to over 400 events across almost 20 local venues, including theatres, hotels, taprooms, historic buildings, restaurants and more.

One such venue was The Nook On Five, which is celebrating four sold out events over the 10-day period.

The restaurant’s programme opened on Sunday 12 October with Saturday Kitchen’s own Matt Tebbutt and Olly Smith, who invited ticket holders to join them for a two-course dinner complete with a selection of matched wines. The meal - curated and cooked by multi-Michelin-starred chef, author and TV personality John Burton-Race - featured adapted dishes from Matt Tebbutt’s newly released cookbook.

Burton-Race joined The Nook On Five earlier this year as Executive Head Chef, having previously worked in some of the UK’s top restaurants and hotels, including Hotel Meurice London, La Sorbonne, and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons - where he worked under renowned chef, Raymond Blanc. Blanc subsequently appointed him Head Chef of Le Petit Blanc in Oxford, where Burton-Race won his first Michelin-Star.

Burton-Race went on to become a house-hold name through his Channel 4 series ‘French Leave’ and its sequel ‘Return of the Chef’, as well as ITV’s ‘I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!’.

Tuesday’s events featured an afternoon with TV presenter Julia Bradbury (Countryfile) and BBC broadcaster Sophie Raworth. An in-depth discussion on health and wellness hacks, from ancient practices to cutting-edge science, their talk educated guests on how to boost their wellbeing, build resilience, and take control of their health – physically, emotionally, and naturally.

Later that evening, the venue welcomed Italian chef-founder Tim Siadatan, cook, author and journalist Amber Guinness and former BBC radio journalist Tim Hubbard. Accompanied by a three-course Italian dinner, the evening was a celebration of Italy, with discussions on the country’s people and culture and the dishes that continue to inspire them.

The Nook on Five served up the final course in their week of events on Sunday 19th October. Guests were invited to join The Times food critic and columnist Giles Coren and his wife and co-star Esther Walker for a live recording of their hit podcast ‘Giles Coran Has No Idea’. The event paired sharp, witty chat with drinks, canapes and petits fours, all created and served by The Nook on Five’s team.

Ed Surman, Owner and Commercial Director of The Nook On Five said: “It was a pleasure to host such an incredible range of events and speakers across the Cheltenham Literature Festival. It is something we always look forward to and try to get involved in, and we were thrilled to be able to take part throughout the week this year.

This year marks Burton-Race's first Christmas at The Nook On Five, for which he has curated a totally refreshed Christmas Banqueting Menu. Designed as a three-course meal - with an optional wine package - the menu now features a variety of much-loved modern-British classics alongside a selection of tried and tested fine-dining dishes, all curated from John's decades in the kitchen.

With bookings taken for a minimum of eight people, the Christmas Banqueting Menu is the perfect festive package for a range of occasions, from corporate Christmas parties to festive celebrations with friends to family feasts.
