On pointe! Dursley care home residents treated to magical performance

Residents at neighbouring Dursley care homes have been treated to a ballet performance worthy of a standing ovation when a group of talented young dancers pirouetted in for a special visit.

The team at Care UK’s The Hollies and Holly Oak, on Drake Lane, welcomed students from The Sally Prout School of Dancing, who brought the magic of theatre to life with an enchanting performance.

The aspiring ballerinas wowed the audience with a series of graceful routines, demonstrating their grade 1 and grade 2 syllabus work.

Residents were able to reminisce about their own fond memories of evenings spent dancing, watching performances and enjoying theatre shows.

Enid, a resident at The Hollies, said: “I thought the ballet school put on a lovely performance, and I enjoyed seeing the lovely outfits they had on. I hope they will come and visit again.

“I wish I could dance like that now. I used to do all sorts of dancing when I was younger, but I remember going to Tap Lessons until I was about ten years old. Then when I was a bit older it was just disco dancing and showing off to the boys at the youth club!”

Sally Prout is a life member of the Royal Academy of Dance and has been teaching the discipline since 1984. She has inspired generations of dancers, with many of her students going on to join prestigious institutions such as The Royal Ballet School and the English National Ballet. Residents could well have enjoyed a preview of stars of the future.

Suzanne Tullett, Home Manager of both care homes, said: “It was wonderful to welcome the talented young performers. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and passion for their craft really shone through, and the residents were captivated from start to finish.

“We know how important it is to provide meaningful experiences that reflect residents’ interests and encourage them to continue enjoying the things they love. Music and live performances have a unique ability to evoke memories, inspire conversations and bring people together.

“We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sally and her students for giving up their time to perform for residents and bringing such sparkle into our home. We are eagerly looking forward to their next visit!”
