COTSWOLDS FITNESS FOUNDER SHORTLISTED FOR TWO REGIONAL AWARDS
Gloucestershire
A Cotswolds-based fitness founder has been shortlisted for two regional awards, recognising his work helping people aged 55 and over stay active, independent and live healthier lives.
James Hilton, founder of Jim’s Gym, has been named a finalist in the Health & Wellbeing Business of the Year category at the SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle & Community Awards, following a public vote by local residents.
The newly expanded Gloucestershire Lifestyle & Community Awards 2026, build on nearly a decade of SoGlos recognising the county’s leading lifestyle businesses, expanding this year to celebrate organisations making a wider impact across community, wellbeing and social value.
James has also been shortlisted in the Best Sport/Fitness Instructor category at the Muddy Stilettos Awards (Gloucestershire & Worcestershire), one of the UK’s largest lifestyle award programmes.
Jim’s Gym is an online fitness community designed specifically for people aged 55 and over, offering a wide range of live and on-demand classes that can be done from home. Alongside strength and balance sessions, members can take part in activities such as Tai Chi, Pilates, yoga and dance-based exercise, as well as being part of a wider community that includes social elements like book club, creative sessions and peer support.
James said being recognised across both awards was a proud moment.
“To be shortlisted for two awards like this is a real boost, especially as both are driven by the people we’re here to support,” he said.
“Jim’s Gym has always been about helping people feel stronger, more confident and more capable in everyday life. I want people to keep moving, stay independent and feel good in themselves as they get older.”
The platform was created to support people who want to improve their fitness but don’t feel comfortable in traditional gym environments, whether due to confidence, mobility, travel or simply not feeling it’s the right fit.
Instead, Jim’s Gym focuses on accessible, home-based movement that supports strength, balance and long-term health in later life.
“A big part of what makes Jim’s Gym work is the people in it. It’s a very supportive environment where members encourage each other, and that makes a huge difference,” he said.
“When people feel comfortable and supported, they’re far more likely to keep moving and build habits that genuinely improve their health and quality of life.”
The aim, James added, is to create something that supports both physical health and overall wellbeing, giving members a reason to keep coming back beyond just exercise.
Winners of the Gloucestershire Lifestyle & Community Awards will be announced at an awards evening at Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham on Thursday 21 May 2026, following a final round of judging by an independent panel.
The Muddy Stilettos Awards are currently in their regional finals stage, with winners decided by public vote, open until 1pm, Tues 26 May 2026. Further information and voting details can be found at https://glosworcs.muddystilettos.co.uk/awards/vote/
