Let’s shred, Printwaste urges homeworkers ahead of National Shred Day

Gloucestershire

2nd October 2021

Venue: Morrisons, Abbeydale, Gloucester

Local recycling and shredding firm Printwaste will be encouraging Gloucestershire homeworkers to securely dispose of confidential documents as they return to the office, ahead of National Shred Day on 2nd October.

The inaugural event, organised by the British Security Association (BSIA), is part of a nationwide initiative to promote the importance of keeping personal data private, providing an opportunity for workers to safely destroy business and personal documents, particularly for those who have accumulated paperwork at home over the past 18 months due to the pandemic.

Printwaste will be onsite at Morrisons Gloucester on the day, enabling small businesses and members of the public to turn up with their confidential waste for safe disposal, in return for a small charity donation.

Don Robins, Managing Director and Owner at Printwaste commented: “With almost 500 identities stolen each day in the UK, identity theft is now a major problem, and the pandemic has only served to exacerbate this issue. Many people also do not realise that by hoarding, storing or ‘filing’ paperwork at home, keeping such highly confidential data presents a significant security risk – not just to them, but to other individuals and to organisations. They are also creating a major security breach, possibly without knowing, which means they are not complying with GDPR and the Data Protection Act (2018). This can have serious, far-reaching consequences, and means businesses’ data is being compromised.

“Shredding also provides other important benefits to the community and worldwide; it can be recycled to reduce carbon footprint, offers a cost-effective solution for businesses and contributes to the circular economy, to name a few.

“We look forward to welcoming businesses and individuals on the day to educate them about the importance of document disposal while helping them safely get rid of their waste.”

Printwaste will be based at Morrisons’ Abbey Mead site from 9am – 2pm on the 2nd. All money raised on the day will go to independent national charity Crimestoppers to help support its regional projects.
