Letter to Editor: A local volunteer shares how businesses can help Sue Ryder this Christmas

I’m getting in touch to encourage other businesses to volunteer for collections as part of the Sue Ryder Christmas Treecycling scheme in Gloucestershire.

Sue Ryder has been Safran Landing Systems’ charity partner for the last four years and our employees have volunteered their time to support the Sue Ryder Christmas Treecycling scheme for the last three years. It is a brilliant way to give back, not only does the initiative raise money to support charity, but it also helps the environment. In fact, Sue Ryder’s Treecycling scheme saved 9,755 trees from landfill in 2024 alone.
Allowing our employees to volunteer their time shows that we value more than just productivity – it demonstrates our commitment to social corporate responsibility and to creating a workplace where people feel proud to belong.

The experience was incredibly rewarding for our volunteers and is a nice change to a day in the office. They worked together collecting Christmas trees across the local area. It was a great way to engage staff outside the office and strengthen our sense of teamwork.

Sue Ryder’s Christmas Treecycling offers a simple way to give back to the local community. It supports the environment, enhances engagement and has strengthened our relationship with Sue Ryder. The festive scheme has been one of many ways we have supported Sue Ryder from both a fundraising and volunteering point of view. We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting Sue Ryder over the past four years and would recommend any company to get involved!
