Young fundraiser takes on Sue Ryder December Daily Dash in memory of beloved granny

William (7) from Tewkesbury is set to lace up his trainers once again for Sue Ryder’s December Daily Dash, marking his second year of fundraising in memory of his granny, who received care and support from Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

When William Peoples was just five, his granny, Ann, was in the advanced stages of womb cancer. After hospital treatment, Ann received the dedicated care from Sue Ryder Nurses, who supported her and her family.

Inspired by the care shown to his granny, that year William took part in the December Daily Dash, walking at least one kilometre every day throughout the month. His efforts raised over £600 for Sue Ryder, with support from family, friends, and the local community. William enjoyed the challenge so much he is now gearing up for his second year of walking in memory of his granny.

Those who take part in the December Daily Dash can choose to walk, jog or run 1k, 3k or 5k every day throughout December. The challenge is a chance to take time for yourself, boost your wellbeing, and raise much-needed funds for Sue Ryder.

William’s mum Faye said: “The Sue Ryder Nurses treated my mum with dignity, kindness and compassion, and supported us as a family through such a difficult time.”

On William’s fundraising determination she added: “Lots of people in the community saw him out walking every day with his December Daily Dash beanie on. He would proudly tell them he was walking for Sue Ryder because they helped his granny.”

William is looking forward to lacing up his trainers again next month, taking on the December Daily Dash and saying thank you for the care his granny received. Donations raised will help Sue Ryder provide expert palliative and bereavement support so that no one has to face death or grief alone.
