New Year brings new Regional Director for Sue Ryder in the South West

Sue Ryder is starting the new year by welcoming Daniel Cheesman as its new Regional Director for healthcare services in the South West, including Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham.

Daniel joined Sue Ryder at the end of 2025 and brings more than 20 years of experience across charities and the public sector. Most recently he was Chief Executive of Jessie May, a children’s hospice at home charity.

His career has focused on supporting people through vulnerable and complex times, including work in palliative care, disability, LGBTQ+ health, and special educational needs.

Speaking about his appointment, Daniel said: “It’s already clear to me what a truly special place Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice is. Walking through the wards and grounds, I’ve felt a real sense of calm and care that shines through in everything the team does. Earlier this year, a close colleague of mine was cared for here, and the compassion she received stayed with me. Palliative care can be difficult and sad, but the hospice felt vibrant and full of life. That moment really shaped my decision to want to work at Sue Ryder.”

Daniel added: “Sue Ryder’s vision, that everyone should be supported through death and grief, felt like the natural next step for me. Starting this new year in a new role, I’m excited to be joining a national charity with such a strong reputation, and I look forward to promoting what we do across the South West and building strong partnerships with other health and palliative care services in the community.”
